Anthropic announced that its wet lab in the Bay Area used Claude to discover a previously unknown enzyme system from bacteriophage DNA with CRISPR-like properties, including cutting, copying, and pasting DNA. The discovery was mostly carried out by Claude in 21 hours using about 950 agents and 210 million tokens. CEO Dario Amodei acknowledged it built on prior work, including systems previously found by a Stanford team, and its value awaits validation.
